Sir Steve Redgrave Charity Skydive for Disability Snowsport UK
Sir Steve Redgrave led a team of brave ski enthusiasts into the skies on Friday 10th July with the world-famous Red Devils parachute display team. Raising money for Disability Snowsport UK, the skydiving team (including Crystal Ski’s very own Mathew Prior and Ian Davis) leapt from the back of a plane at an eye-watering 13,000 feet.
Ian Davis, Crystal Ski‘s Product Director, talks us through his experience during the tandem skydive:
“After the safety briefing, myself, Sir Steve and the team of 25 fundraisers split into smaller groups and waited nervously for our group to be called to board the plane and after a bumpy take off ascend 13,000 feet above the Wiltshire countryside.”
“As we reached the drop height, our Red Devils instructor nudged us toward the shutter door, there was no time for second thoughts. We jumped, the initial sensation of falling is incredibly exciting and frightening, you then settle into your freefall position, the descent lasted for around 45 seconds travelling at up to 120mph. This eased once the parachute opened, giving us 4 to 5 minutes to enjoy the views before a gentle landing.”
“We are really privileged to be taking part in the event to raise funds for Disability Snowsport UK. At Crystal we are pleased to be working with DSUK as our chosen charity, we have many ways in which we can help from fundraising to logistical in resort support and helping to organise the Activity weeks that are vital to ensure everyone can enjoy the rush of snowsports.”
So far, the event has raised more than £16,000 for Disability Snowsport UK with another £9,000 needed to reach the target. To make a donation to Disability Snowsport UK, please visit justgiving.com where you can also see a video of Sir Steve Redgrave’s jump.
