A half pipe - not the half pipe

So, probably the greatest snowboarder in the world has been secretly putting together a range of new tricks deep in the backcountry of Silverton, Colorado. With top-quality powder, Silverton is the ideal location for Shaun White’s latest project, mysteriously titled Project X. But what is it?

In deepest Colorado, the future of snowboarding began to unfold when Shaun White teamed up with Red Bull to create a customised half pipe. On Shaun White’s website, he stated “I’ve had all these tricks in my mind I’ve wanted to try. I just needed a place to figure them out.” And so it would seem, this secret half pipe will turn White’s concepts into reality.

The whole snowboarding world will hold its breath until November 3rd, when we get our first glimpse at what could be Shaun White’s sickest skills ever. Take a look at The Secret Half Pipe and get an idea of exactly how big a project this was. The numbers speak for themselves…

250,000 cubic yards of snow were moved to create the pipe
7,200 foam blocks to build the foam pit
300 man hours were needed to create the foam pit

Now, we must wait for November 3rd and Shaun White’s celebration of the arrival of the 2009/10 snowboarding season.
