Fresh snowfall in Tirol

So a new week and a new report of fresh snowfall in the mountains of Austria. Last week’s heavy snowfall seems to have been just the start with fantastic snow conditions now reported across 5 Tirolean glaciers. Winter has arrived in the Tirol and it’s only mid-October – so dust off your skis and get ready for the new season now.

Take a look at the Tirol snow report for the latest snow news from Austria.

After the success of last year, expectation for the Tirolean ski season is high. Fresh snowfall of 150cm on the Hintertux glacier and nearly 50cm in Söden and St. Anton are positive signs for the forthcoming ski season. As well as the snow, Austria is putting on plenty of events to ensure a great start to winter in the mountains.

Snowfall in the Tirol

This weekend (23-25 October), Söden welcomes the FIS Ski World Cup to its slopes. The race is the first World Cup race of the season and sees the very best skiers flock to the Tirolean mountains. Previous winners have included recently-retired Hermann Maier and the US comeback kid Bode Miller.

Last weekend (16-18 October) was the first event on the Kaunertal glacier, despite it being open to skiing since mid-September. With a whole weekend of events, the Kaunertal Opening included Freeski & Snowboard comps, shred contest and tunes laid down by DJ Badspin.

All the signs point to another great season in Austria, with Tirol expected to follow last year’s effort with some more top-drawer skiing and snowboarding. As winter arrives on the Tirolean mountains, skiers and snowboarders from all over the world will be eagerly anticipating the chance to hit the slopes in 09/10.
