Snow report – fresh dump in North America

Fresh snowfall in Fernie
After weeks of promising snow news on this side of the Atlantic, Western Canada joined the party this week with a massive dump of the white stuff. Resorts such as Marmot Basin, Banff and Fernie (pictured) have all reported big snowfall recently with many also opening soon.
First to open for the 09/10 ski season will be Mount Norquay in Banff, currently planning to open for weekends in the next few days. Other resorts set to open for skiing in the coming weeks include Nakiska and Marmot Basin, with the latter boasting a brand new chairlift – the Canadian Rockies Express.
The eastern resorts of Canada haven’t been as lucky with snowfall as yet. Despite a promising level of snow in Quebec, the Country Mont Saint Sauveur resort aborted its early opening when temperatures began to rise, forcing them to close again until conditions improved.
The USA has seen a decent level of snowfall in recent weeks with Loveland already open and Copper and Keystone looking to follow suit in the very near future. Sunday River in Maine continues to welcome early-bird skiers and has been open now for two weeks of the 09/10 ski season.
With October ebbing slowly away and November’s arrival imminent, expect the remaining ski resorts to open shortly to signal the full arrival of the 09/10 ski season.
