Shaun White Project X – The New Tricks

Shaun White New Tricks Revealed...
After much intrigue, excitement, anticipation – Shaun White has delivered yet again. With the announcement of Project X, snowboarders, fans and regular Joes were all desperate for November 3rd to arrive when all would be revealed. I waited and waited until November 3rd had passed without incident. What a let down. But wait, what did November 4th bring.
Shaun White (and the energy drink that sponsors him) decided to put us out of our misery with 4 new tricks. That’s 4 new tricks for snowboarders to feebly attempt to replicate when they hit the half-pipe this season. That’s other professional snowboarders, not us amateurs. We shouldn’t even think about trying them.
So, here are Shaun White’s new tricks. In his own words – “I’ve never done ‘em and I don’t think I’ve seen anybody do ‘em.” Should be an interesting Vancouver 2010 when he defends his title…
Trick #1 – Front Double Cork 10
Keir Dillion states ‘You can only spin so much’ in the video for this trick. He is right, but Shaun White pushes this theory to the max with his Front Double Cork 10. This trick has been done before, but never in a half-pipe.

Trick #2 – Switch Back 900
“After doing the double cork, it’s not as frightening to tuck it again.” White’s Switch Back looks so easy as he pulls it off on his first attempt in the pipe. Adam Moran states quite matter-of-factly – “That one, he just got it right away”. Nice to know it’s as easy for him as he makes it looks.

Trick #3 – Double Back Rodeo
“Unfortunately… there’s not a lot of powder in the half-pipe.” Shaun explains some of the issues with trying out these tricks in the purpose-built pipe. He takes a few knocks as a result but by doubling his previous backside rodeo, he gets it in the end. White signs off the video by saying “the trick’s done.” That’s enough for me.

Trick #4 – Cab Double Cork 10
Put together in the second pipe session. He pulls Trick #1 out again but puts it into a Cab Double Cork. When Adam Moran explains the trick’s difficulty with “You’re flipping on the way up and you’re flipping on the way down”, it makes you understand how hard this is. Watch in slow motion to be even more impressed.

So there you have it. Shaun White’s new tricks revealed. Can’t wait to see them for real in the competitions. Doesn’t look like anyone will be taking his Olympic crown away from Vancouver 2010.
