Vancouver 2010 – Our men on the slopes…

Vancouer-2010

Our guys in Vancouver have been working harder than ever over the last week and a half. So what’s being going on behind the scenes at the Winter Olympics? Well, we’ve got Jon and Mike with their ears to the ground and their eyes on the prize so we won’t miss a thing. Read all about what they’ve been getting up to recently…

DAY 11

The past couple of days have been full ups and downs especially for the Canadian team. We saw the the 1st Gold medal going to a Canadian in Whistler with victory for Jon Montgomery in the mens skeleton. Needless to say the village went off that night! The Canadian team’s fortunes changed for the worse yesterday evening as the men’s hockey team lost to the USA 3-5 leaving many Canadian’s nervous about their hopes for Gold at their own Olympics.

We also saw team GB win their first medal with AMY WILLIAMS taking GOLD (GO TEAM GB!!!) in the ladies skeleton at the controversial Whistler sliding centre. Things didn’t go so well in the men’s bobsleigh for team GB – as along with 5 other teams the sled flipped onto its side – luckily both team members avoided any serious injury.

Whistler village has been bathed in sunshine for the majority of the week which has really encouraged more people to come up and experience the games. The beautiful weather has completely changed the atmosphere here in contrast to the first couple of days of competition where all the talk was of the low cloud and bad snow conditions. The alpine skiing program resumes tomorrow with men’s Giant Slalom in the morning with ladies to follow on Wednesday.

Celebrity wise we’ve had Richard Branson in resort for a couple of days and Mike was lucky enough to meet Sir Clive Woodward (now British Olympic Association’s Director of Elite Performance) who was wandering around the media centre!

We are heading to the Medals Plaza tonight for the first time for the medals ceremony which we’re really excited about. After that there’s loads of DJ’s and acts performing so it should be a good night – we’ll try and get some good photos! Whistler has also set up huge stages around the village with big screens for the public to watch events on, and tomorrow none other than Damian (Jr Gong) Marley is playing a free concert in the centre of the village which we are definitely going to go to!
