Is mypass the future of the ski pass?

5 May 2010 No Comment

“The future of the ski pass.” That’s the bold statement that proclaims the arrival of the mypass in New Zealand. Replacing the traditional paper and wire ticket, the electronic mypass system will store a massive amount of stats and information on one handy pass.

So, is mypass really the future for lift passes?

www.mypass.nzski.com states that “mypass is more than a lift pass, it’s the only card you’ll need when you visit Mt Hutt, The Remarkables and Coronet Peak.” So, what exactly does the mypass offer?

• The mypass gives you access to Mt Hutt, The Remarkables and Coronet Peak.
• View all your stats online, including vertical metres number of runs and even your favourite lift.
• Compare your stats with your friends for a bit of healthy competition.
• mypass stores all your information from lift passes to gear rental and lessons.
• Scan your mypass as you pass through the gate. You don’t even need to take out of your pocket.
• You can purchase and top-up your mypass online. Quick and hassle-free.
• Use the mypass year after year – just remember to top it up.

It definitely sounds like it’s the direction that lift passes will be going. And we’d like to bet that it’ll only be a matter of time before we see the mypass influence all over the world. Let’s wait and see what the 2010/11 ski season brings…
