Canadian gold medallist coaching at Whistler

9 May 2010 No Comment

Momentum Ski Camps will feature some of the world’s best skiers coaching at their summer ski camp at Whistler Blackcomb in Canada.  2010 Olympic Freestyle Skier Alex Bilodeau, the first Canadian to win a gold medal on home soil, will join the roster of coaches many of whom began their preeminent professional ski careers as Momentum campers.

“Every year we get to see that life cycle of the athlete up on the glacier,” says John Smart, Camp Director and two time Olympian. “I have watched so many extremely talented kids train on the glacier, eventually become the next big superstar like Alex Bilodeau or X-Games champion Sarah Burke, and then come back to Momentum to coach that next batch of extremely talented kids.”

Getting the best coaches has always been the mandate at Momentum Ski Camps.  Besides Bilodeau, their coaching staff this summer will include Vincent Marquis who placed 4th at the Olympic Games this year, as well as a veritable who’s who of the best freeride pro skiers including Sarah Burke, TJ Schiller, Colby West, Peter Olenick, Mike Riddle and Justin Dorey.

“Our record and list of former campers who have gone on to become the new top skiers in the world is unmatched by any camp. Our formula is simple, we use the best skiers in the world to teach you,” says Smart. “The key to our, and to our campers’ success, is the coaches don’t just ride… they teach, motivate and inspire.”

Camp begins June 18 with five sessions through to the end of July spanning seven to nine days.  Accommodating both recreational and competitive youth or adult campers, Momentum is geared exclusively for skiers and offers either moguls, freeride (terrain park skiing) or the hybrid option, which provides three days of coaching in each discipline.  Momentum’s terrain features are designed by skiers for skiers, providing an exclusive training ground built for the purpose of progressing their campers.

Momentum Ski Camp includes lodging at Blackcomb Lodge in Whistler Village, airport transfers to Whistler, lift tickets and three meals a day, including a “dine-around” dinner program so campers can experience Whistler’s cuisine.  Off-snow activities include pro-level trampoline sessions, access to water ramp training, as well as a host of other Whistler activities including the resort’s mountain bike park.
