Second Festival of European Cinema to Open Les Arcs’ 2010-11 Season

After a successful first edition, the Les Arcs European Film Festival will return at the start of this winter, to show the best of European independent cinema. There’ll be around sixty films from all over Europe being shown in 120 screenings from all around Les Arcs and Bourg Saint Maurice.
There’ll also be a competition between 12 feature films to be crowned best in show and win the prestigious “Crystal Arrow” award, voted for by a prestigious jury. Its main role is to cast light on talented directors whose films are poorly circulated outside their home countries. The event will comprise films produced or co-produced in one or more European countries and the winners will be granted financial aid so that their film can be distributed throughout Europe as well internationally.
This international event is designed to promote and celebrate European cinema, and this year there’ll be a particular emphasis on films from Denmark, with new jury President, Danish Director Thomas Vinterberg (“Festen”, Special Prize of the Jury, Cannes 1998).
The first edition of the Festival last December was a big success with 9,000 spectators viewing, attending from 28 countries, and there were 500 movie professionals in town too. Last year “London Nights – Unmade Beds”, an English movie by Alexis Do Santo’s won the coveted “Crystal Arrow” award.
This year’s festival will be staged from the 11th to the 18th of December 2010.
